The sensitive-teeth reset
A calmer seven-day routine for teeth that flinch at coffee, cold water or the first touch of a toothbrush.

Sensitivity is not a diagnosis; it is a signal. Exposed dentine is one possible cause, but decay, a cracked tooth, a worn filling or gum disease can feel similar. This gentle reset is designed for mild, general sensitivity—not sharp pain from one tooth, swelling, pain on biting or symptoms that linger.
Think of the next week as a pause: fewer aggressive products, less pressure and a routine simple enough to repeat.
The ritual
Consistency, not intensity
Remove the friction
Use lukewarm water, a soft touch and a fluoride sensitivity toothpaste. Pause whitening pastes and acidic rinses. Brush for two minutes without scrubbing.
Refine the technique
Let the bristles do the work. Clean each surface methodically and ease around the gumline. If interdental cleaning hurts, ask your dentist about the correct size rather than forcing it.
Keep the rhythm
Brush morning and night, spit without vigorous rinsing, and note whether triggers are becoming less dramatic. Desensitising toothpastes usually need repeated use.
A considered edit
Three gentle essentials
These are practical choices, not a prescription. Select the format that suits your dexterity and follow the product directions.

Pressure-aware brush
Philips Sonicare 4100
A pressure sensor, two intensity levels and EasyStart make this a thoughtful option when heavy-handed brushing is part of the problem.

Daily toothpaste
Sensodyne Clinical Repair
A 5% NovaMin sensitivity toothpaste. Use it consistently as directed; switching products every few days makes it harder to judge the effect.

Between the teeth
TePe Extra Soft mixed pack
A useful introduction to gentler interdental bristles. The right size should pass snugly without force; a hygienist can size each space properly.
