ApaCare toothpaste: what are the advantages of “liquid enamel”?
A practical look at ApaCare’s fluoride-and-hydroxyapatite formula, who may benefit from it, and how the daily, Kids, OraLactin, Repair and Polish products differ.

ApaCare is best known for combining conventional fluoride with hydroxyapatite—the calcium-phosphate mineral that makes up much of tooth enamel. The brand calls this finely divided hydroxyapatite “liquid enamel”. That phrase is useful marketing shorthand, but it should not be taken literally: toothpaste cannot grow back enamel that has been physically lost or fill a cavity.
The three useful advantages
Fluoride stays central
The daily toothpaste contains sodium fluoride. This matters because fluoride toothpaste remains the evidence-based foundation for preventing decay; hydroxyapatite is an addition, not a reason to abandon fluoride.
Potential sensitivity support
Hydroxyapatite particles can deposit on exposed tooth surfaces and may help block dentinal tubules. That can be useful for mild sensitivity, although persistent or one-sided pain needs a dental examination.
A smoother surface
Mineral deposition may make enamel feel smoother and change how it reflects light. Teeth can look cleaner or brighter, but this is not bleaching and will not change their underlying natural shade.
What it cannot do
“Repair” and “remineralise” are easily overstated. Early, microscopic mineral loss can sometimes be stabilised when plaque control, fluoride, saliva and diet are favourable. A cavitated hole, cracked tooth, significant erosion or established decay cannot be rebuilt by toothpaste. White spots also have several possible causes, so do not self-treat them indefinitely without asking a dentist.

How I would use the range
For most adults, I would keep the routine simple: brush twice daily for two minutes with the regular fluoride toothpaste, spit and avoid rinsing immediately. If sensitivity is the reason you are buying it, use a soft brush and light pressure as well—no toothpaste compensates for aggressive scrubbing.
Repair can be treated as an optional leave-on adjunct after brushing. Polish is different: it is intended for occasional stain removal, once or twice a week. If you drink a lot of coffee, tea or red wine, remember that frequent polishing is not the same as treating the cause of discolouration. Tartar and older deposits require professional cleaning.
For children, follow Irish guidance rather than relying only on the age printed on an imported product. The HSE recommends fluoride toothpaste from age two, a pea-sized amount of adult-strength fluoride toothpaste and adult help with brushing until at least age seven. Ask your dentist if your child has early decay, enamel defects or is receiving additional fluoride.

The bottom line
ApaCare’s strongest feature is not the phrase “liquid enamel”; it is the combination of an established anti-caries ingredient—fluoride—with hydroxyapatite as a potentially useful surface-depositing adjunct. The standard toothpaste is the sensible starting point. Choose OraLactin only if its extra formulation interests you, use Polish sparingly, and regard Repair as an adjunct rather than treatment for unexplained symptoms or visible disease.
